Abelone Wilhelmsen (°1971) is a Borgerhout based Danish fashion designer.
She was born in Copenhagen and grew up in a creative environment, surrounded by design, architecture, art, jazz and classical music. Her beloved mother was a tailor with a great sense of beauty. Her father, a shoemaker, passed on his craftsmanship and his passion for leather.
Early on, young Abelone started to play around with textures, shapes, colors and patterns herself. That exploration led to the Denmark’s Design School (Copenhagen), l'Institut Français de la Mode (Paris), the Winchester School of Art where she got her master's degree and... Antwerp.
The plan was to stay in the Belgian fashion capital for three months. But she never left... She went from one creative adventure to the next and was able to work for big names like Veronique Branquinho, Jan Fabre and Dries Van Noten.
All this time Abelone kept working on her own collection, in which graphics and shadows take the lead. Her creations are timeless, her ideas are playful. A single word can trigger her enthusiasm and creativity.
